Article I - Nomenclature

The name of this organization shall be known as the Memphis Baptist Congress of Christian Education.

Article II - Object
​
The object of this congress shall be: (a) To promote the growth and efficiency of the Sunday schools and B.T.U.’s nurture in the city of Memphis; (b) To increase the intelligence and working power of the leaders and workers in these respective organizations; (c) To cultivate a social fellowship among the members of the CONSTITUTION various churches in the city of Memphis and vicinity.

Article III - Membership

Section 1 - Membership in this congress shall consist of Sunday schools and B.T.U.’s nurture of churches in Memphis and vicinity. Each church represented shall be entitled to three messengers from each organization Sunday School and B.T.U./Nurture. Messengers qualifying from one organization of a church shall not be eligible to vote for another in case of division of vote.
Section 2 - Any church failing to represent for three consecutive meetings shall lose its membership in the congress, and can be reinstalled only by payment of one hundred fifty dollars ($150) and any payments owed by prior commitment.

Article IV—Officers
​
Section I - The officers of this Congress shall be president, first vice president, second vice president, third vice president, recording secretary, assistant recording secretary, corresponding secretary, financial secretary, treasurer, pianist, musical director, Dean of the Congress, Instructor of Sunday School and B.T.U./Nurture Departments, Assistant Dean, Director of Sunday School and B.T.U./ Nurture Departments, Statistician and Registrar – all of whom shall hold office until their successors are elected and qualified.
The president shall not be eligible for election to more than four consecutive terms until at least one year has elapsed.
Section 2-A nominating committee consisting of one member from each church represented shall be appointed in the November meeting each year. The report of the committee shall be read and acted upon in the December meeting. Vote shall be by acclamation. The officers elected shall be duly installed in the January meeting.
Section 3-There shall be an executive committee consisting of the Officers of the Congress and representatives of the Baptist Ministers’ Alliance.
Section 4-The following standing committees shall be appointed by the President at each annual session. Membership, Finance, Social, Place of Meeting, Publicity and Auditing.

Article V - Time of Meeting
​
The congress shall meet on the third Sunday in each month at 3:00 p.m., at the place of meeting designated, subject to approval of the Baptist Ministers’ Alliance.

Article VI
​
Funds raised by congress shall be used for the operating expenses, representation fees in the State and national congress and distributed among the denominational objectives as directed by the body.

Article VII
​
This constitution may be amended at any regular meeting by a two-thirds vote of messengers registered from churches regularly enrolled and in good standing, provided such amendment has been submitted in writing at a previous meeting, subject to approval of the Baptist Ministers’ Alliance.
